The Meinau sits in its namesake district within the city, and it’s easy to reach. Best of all, the Strasbourg-Krimmeri-Meinau train station is just 200m away, and the CTS tram and bus network serves the area well (tram and bus tickets are interchangeable). Strasbourg is a compact, cycle-friendly city, and driving into the centre can be awkward, so public transport is the way. Strasbourg is a beautiful city, so do the pre-match in style. The winstubs — traditional Alsatian taverns — of the Grande Île and the fairy-tale La Petite France quarter serve the region’s hearty Franco-German fare: choucroute (sauerkraut with sausages), tarte flambée (a thin Alsatian flatbread) and superb local white wines like Riesling and Gewürztraminer. Payment is card-friendly, and the club recently unveiled what it bills as the longest refreshment bar in France (50m) under the west stand. The Meinau’s ongoing renovation is remarkable: a Populous-designed rebuild toward 32,000 capacity, with a world-first façade using upcycled Airbus fuselage panels as sunshades on the south stand, plus solar power and rainwater recycling — and, refreshingly, the ground keeps its historic name rather than a corporate one. Tickets are sold through the official club website, with first prices around €20. Note a local quirk: for the biggest games, such as PSG or Marseille, single-match tickets are often not sold separately — you may need to buy a pack including other fixtures. There’s also an official resale platform where season-ticket holders can sell their places (it typically opens three to five days before a match). The train and trams clear the crowd quickly back into the centre, where Strasbourg rewards a long evening. This is one of France’s loveliest cities — the pink-sandstone cathedral, the canals of La Petite France, and the winstubs and wine bars of the Grande Île make for a memorable night, and in December the famous Christmas market is one of Europe’s best.
