A match under the eagle
Benfica's modern Estádio da Luz opened in 2003 on the site of the club's former home. Matchday begins with the eagle ceremony before kick-off and builds around one of Portugal's largest supporter bases. The central side sections give the cleanest view; the ends carry more of the singing and colour.
Getting to Estádio da Luz
Take the Blue metro line to Colégio Militar/Luz. From there the stadium is a short, well-signposted walk past the Colombo shopping centre. The metro is far more practical than driving, particularly when the crowd leaves together after the final whistle.
Tickets and timing
Benfica says supporters should buy through its official website, app, stores or authorised Casas do Benfica. Member priority applies to many sales, while normal league fixtures may later reach registered fans and general sale. Porto, Sporting and major European matches require much earlier planning. Wait for the confirmed kick-off before locking in inflexible flights.
Stadium tour and museum
On non-matchdays, the stadium-and-museum visit covers the dressing rooms, players' tunnel, pitchside area and Benfica's trophy history. Tour availability can change around fixtures, so reserve a timed visit rather than assuming entry on arrival.
