Málaga is a superb city for a pre-match, blessed with sunshine, a beautiful historic centre and a buzzing food-and-drink scene. Fans gather in the bars near the ground and, more enjoyably, across the centre — around the cathedral, the port and the tapas streets — before making the short walk or bus ride to La Rosaleda. La Rosaleda is a proper, atmospheric football ground that has been Málaga’s home since 1941, hosting 1982 World Cup matches and, in the club’s golden spell, Champions League nights against the likes of Borussia Dortmund. It’s a traditional bowl rather than a modern arena, and all the better for it. The most vocal support gathers behind the goals. For the best experience, a goal end for atmosphere or the central main stand for the view. Enjoy it as it is — while a brand-new stadium is planned elsewhere in the city for the 2030s, La Rosaleda remains the home of Málaga football for now.

The central location makes for an easy end to the day — the walk or short bus back into Málaga’s centre clears the crowd quickly. And few cities reward a post-match evening like Málaga: the historic centre, the port-side Muelle Uno, the tapas bars and the beaches keep the night going in the Costa del Sol warmth.
